Welcome, and thank you for visiting.
I’m Ben Honey, a Devon-based artist creating colourful, contemporary paintings inspired by the places around us and other form my imagination.
In my pseudo- representational work, my work begins with recognisable landscapes, coastlines, buildings and towns, but I enjoy taking them somewhere a little different, simplifying shapes, shifting perspectives and using bold areas of colour to create my own interpretation of a place.
Alongside paintings inspired by real locations, I also enjoy creating entirely imagined places and landscapes. These works give me the freedom to play with architecture, perspective, colour and scale, allowing buildings, pathways, trees and landscapes to develop without the constraints of a particular view. Familiar elements are rearranged into places that feel strangely believable, yet could exist only in the imagination. They are less about where somewhere is and more about where the imagination might take you
I believe art should be enjoyable. I’m not interested in reproducing exactly what a camera can already capture. Instead, I look for the character, shapes, colours and atmosphere that make somewhere memorable.
Here you can explore my original paintings and prints, discover my latest work, and find out about commissioning a painting of a building, landscape or special place that means something to you.
Most importantly, enjoy looking around. Art doesn’t always need explaining. Sometimes you just need to find something that makes you stop, look again and smile.
Welcome to my world.
